We’re Red Rose Blind Bowlers, a charity based in Lancashire and associated with the BBS Tenpin Leagues. We want more blind and partially sighted people to discover the fun of ten-pin bowling.
About us
A warm welcome.
A shared love of bowling.
There’s more to a game than the score.
A good game is a chance to meet people, encourage each other and enjoy being part of a team. Whether you’re curious about your first go or keen to compete, start with a chat with us.
Ten-pin is a sport that blind and partially sighted people of different ages and abilities can enjoy. BBS welcomes players across sight classifications and skill levels.
How bowling can
work for you.
Different players use different support. Guide rails, lane barriers and sighted assistants can help with play. A sighted assistant can tell you which numbered pins are still standing after a bowl, helping you plan your next shot.
The BBS leagues use a score-based handicap system to make competition fairer between players of different abilities. The adjustment is based on bowling averages rather than sight classification.
Talk to us about what would help you enjoy a session. We’ll discuss the arrangements before you come along.
Two leagues.
Plenty to play for.
Summer Pairs
Two main bowlers per team, with a reserve if needed. The season runs from May to November, with the finals and awards event in November.
Winter Trios
Three main bowlers per team, with up to two reserves. The season runs from November to May, with the finals and awards event in May.
These are the BBS Tenpin league formats described in our information pack. Contact us for the next season’s confirmed arrangements.
Local games.
National friendships.
League teams bowl at their local centre and send their scores to the BBS Fixtures Secretary. A season has around ten matches, with two games per match played within the scheduled period.
Qualifying teams come together at national finals. Awards dinners and memorial tournaments add to the social side of the bowling community.
Membership and costs
BBS membership and league entry fees apply. Bowling, travel and event costs may also apply. Ask us about current prices, membership requirements and support before you sign up.
Fancy giving it a go?
You don’t have to know all the rules before you get in touch. That’s what a friendly first chat is for.
